The Journey of Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a journey of changes in MANY aspects!

It is not only the body of a woman that changes, as a baby grows miraculously inside her belly, but also many other changes are taking place....

People are often saying to Felipe and I, "WOW! So many changes are happening to you. First you get married and then Laura gets pregnant right away. That's a lot of changes!"

We welcome the changes and praise God for them! We both want to live a life of following God's leading and voice speaking to us... Even if sometimes that means we are stepping out in faith and doing things that may not make sense. We want to follow Jesus and walk where He is calling us to go!

As we talked and prayed about when to start our family we sensed His joy, peace, and blessing to try to have kids right away. We were surprised and thankful I got pregnant so fast, since the doctors were concerned about me having 3 uterine fibroids and warned that I could have difficulty getting pregnant. Even though this pregnancy has been very challenging physically for me at times, I am seeing God's faithfulness at work in our lives and ordering our steps. I am thankful.
I am growing in more ways than just my belly growing BIGGER... I am growing in faith and growing to depend more and more on my faithful Father who knows me best and loves me unconditionally (even when I am not feeling like myself both physically and emotionally). He knows my heart and sees my desire to worship Him, even in my weakness.

I have had many moments of complete brokenness and crying out to God during this pregnancy as we have faced several challenges throughout. I am thankful that God is such a personal and loving Father who meets us where we are at and accepts us as we are with OPEN arms of LOVE!
Oh how He LOVES US!

I wanted to post a few photos of my pregnancy journey...
Watch Sophia Grace as she is growing inside my belly!

This photo was taken the 2nd week in September, just two weeks after returning home from our honeymoon. A home pregnancy test gave us positive results so we excitedly captured our happy moment with this photo!

As my best friend's daughter Ella often said to me while pointing to my belly,
"There is a baby in there!"

This photo was taken sometime in October. I had recently told the children I worked with that I was pregnant and every day they would arrive touching my tummy and talking to the baby. I wasn't really showing at all, but they would love to interact with my baby. It was so sweet!

In November my tummy was starting to show just a bit. You can kind of see it in this photo...
I had just given a birthday present to a special 2 year old that lives here at the Light House with his missionary family.

By Christmas I was really just beggining to show...
And then SUDDENLY, in January, Sophia started growing like crazy and has been growing LOTS ever since! It also could have been all the rich and delicious food I was enjoying in the USA.

At Miami beach in the beginning of February. We had a layover in Miami on our way home to Brazil, so we took a city bus to see the beautiful clear ocean water.

If you would like to see an ultrasound of Sophia taken on March 31st just click on this link!
There is a cool part where she is opening her mouth really wide, like she is yawning really big and then she sticks her tongue out. Very funny!

Easter Sunday morning. At this point in my pregnancy Sophia is weighing about 5.5 pounds or 2.5 kilos! She is a healthy girl! We are thankful!

Our girl, Sophia Grace Matias, is due to arrive on May 11th!
Please pray with us during the last weeks of my pregnancy.

Please be in prayer for the following:
- Our home repairs to be completed SOON so we can organize and prepare for Sophia's arrival.

- A healthy and successful birth
- Our adaptation of caring for a new born

- God's wisdom, grace, and love as we continue to lead the team here at the Lighthouse, at the same time as becoming new parents!

We are so thankful for all of you who are walking with us, encouraging us, praying for us, and supporting us financially. May God bless you richly!
