A Baby Shower for Maria

Last Saturday I, along with a two other girls from the Lighthouse team, threw a baby shower for a 19 year-old girl from the community named Maria.  She is 8 months pregnant and is having a boy!
Maria has been through quite a bit this past year. Her mother fell down a stairway and as a result died. This was a big shock to her and her 2 little sisters and brother. They are now living with their grandmother in a home in the slum that is in great need of repair.
Maria is not married, but is still together with the father of her baby.   He seems to be a kind young man who cares for Maria and he sincerely wants be a part of the baby's life.  Please be praying that he would find a good job to support both Maria and the baby.  He is currently searching for a job.
Before the shower us girls were enjoying talking about baby stuff while Sophia was showing off her ability to scoot around on the table.  Sophia is almost crawling!
Maria was really enjoying seeing Sophia and hearing about some of my experiences as a mom. Maria was like a sponge absorbing everything I was telling her. I am excited about continuing to visit Maria once she has her baby.  I want to be a voice of encouragement in her life.
The shower begins!  I prepared a guessing game with some of the presents.
Praying for Maria... Proclaiming blessings over her and her precious baby boy.
Even though it was a small and simple baby shower with just a few people in attendance, I strongly sensed the LOVE of God during the afternoon together with Maria and her family members.

The scripture that was in my heart during the baby shower was Psalm 139:13-18.

 For you created my inmost being;
   you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
   when I was made in the secret place,
   when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
   all the days ordained for me were written in your book
   before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts God!
   How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
   they would outnumber the grains of sand...

  The part of this scripture that most stood out to me was the part in the end that speaks of how great God's thoughts are towards us.  I really sensed this was a word for Maria and we had the opportunity to share it with her.  God wanted her to know that He thinks she is precious.  He loves her immensely and especially in this moment of her life He wants her to know how valuable and precious she and her baby are.
 The Lord just wanted to lavish HIS love on HIS beautiful daughter Maria... I am glad he could use just a few simple girls from the Lighthouse team to be His arms of love and voices of encouragement.
