An Update

I just wanted to post an update about the recent events that have been taking place here in the slum where we live and serve with YWAM.  My two previous posts explain the current events that have taken place here in the Cafezal slum. (Click here to read more.)

Overall, it seems things are getting better. There have not been any more riots or demonstrations, there are less helicopters circling and less police presence in the streets. It seems like life in the slum is returning "back to normal."
Last night we heard gunshots in the middle of the night and we are not sure what was going on. Actually hearing gunshots is quite normal here. Unfortunately that is the reality of life - in a slum, in Brazil.  There are drug traffickers, there is violence, there are unfortunate situations that take place constantly.

Please do continue to pray for the people of the Cafezal slum, especially the children. God has a life of  HOPE and LOVE for everyone.  Please pray that the people here would taste and see the goodness of the Lord and pray that the Christians who live here (and we missionaries serving here at the Lighthouse Community Center) would be empowered and anointed to show God's heart towards all who don't know Him personally...

This scripture comes to my mind for the slum as I am writing now...
When He (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Matt. 9:36

When God sees the many children, teenagers and adults in need here in Cafezal, He has compassion.  He offers His unconditional love and mercy to all who will turn towards Him. God wants to come into the lives of those who are hurting, take care of them and show them the way to a better life.  I believe this is His heart.  He sees each individual one and offers Himself...
