You Are For Me

If you are like me, you most likely go through seasons where a specific song speaks deeply to you.  You probably listen to that song over and over and over.  Possibly, even the people closest to you are tired of you playing that same song over and over...
Currently, my "song of the season" is a beautiful song by Kari Jobe called You Are For Me.  This song speaks about WHO God is and that He is FOR US.  This is such a beautiful and profound truth.  God is FOR US!  HE is FOR YOU!

When there are challenges in life, and it seems that there is much against us, it is important to remember the TRUTH and WHO God is.  As we look to Him and focus on Him, He reminds us of who we are (His beloved children) and that He is FOR US.  This song proclaims these vital truths...  It is always so comforting and affirming to remember that the Lord is FOR US. He sees us and loves us and will never forsake us in our weaknesses.

I have been singing this song over me (encouraging myself in the Lord) and over the children, specifically the girls, living in the slum.  I have been praying for a revelation of who God is over the hearts of the girls.  I am praying that they will know there is a loving God who is FOR them.
Here there are many things that seem to be against lives, attacking the hearts of the girls living in the community - poverty, broken families, poor education system, lack of hope for the future, depression, low self-esteem, and so many more things... Through this song I have been proclaiming the TRUTH of who the Father is and His amazing LOVE.

I hope you enjoy this song as much as I have been enjoying it and through it God speaks to your heart.

You Are For Me
by: Kari Jobe

So faithful. So constant.
So loving and so true.
So powerful in all You do.
You fill me. You see me.
You know my every move
and You love for me to sing to You.

I know that You are for me.
I know that You are for me.
I know that You will never,
forsake me in my weaknesses

I know that You have come now,
even if to write upon my heart.
To remind me who You are.

So patient, So gracious,
So merciful and true…
So wonderful in all You do.
You fill me. You see me.
You know my every move.
You love for me to sing to You

Lord, I know that You are for me
I know that You are for me
I know that You will never,
forsake me in my weaknesses

I know that You have come now,
even if to write upon my heart.
To remind me that
I know that You are for me.

Missing Girl Found!

Ana, the lost girl, was found!
She is doing well and is now with her father.

Cida  (a missionary who works with this family) visited Ana's grandmother today. As I mentioned before, Ana's grandmother is not mentally stable. She is an elderly woman who frequently repeats herself and speaks as if she is confused most of the time.  Details and clear information were difficult to obtain from the grandmother, but Cida was able to get some information.

Basically, after Ana was given away, a few family members were quite upset and they began to take action to search for Ana themselves. In all their searching they somehow obtained a phone number of the people who had "supposedly" taken Ana.  They did not believe that the number would actually work or even be the people who had Ana, but they tried calling it to see.  In the end, the number was surprisingly valid and it was the phone number of the people who had taken Ana! Over the phone, Ana's uncle threatened to call the police if the people did not give Ana back.  The people agreed to return Ana and her father went to get her.  Ana is now safe with her father at his home, which is located in another area of the city of Belo Horizonte.

I must say that through this whole situation I was blessed to see SO many people praying for this precious girl.  People ALL over the world were praying. I want to say THANK YOU for praying and interceding for Ana's life.  Thank you for caring too...  God truly placed His hands of protection over Ana, and I pray that He will continue to do this.

I see this whole situation as a great reminder of how there is power in prayer. As we unite in prayer, God hears, God answers, God works miracles, and God shows Himself to be True!  To Him be the GLORY!

Please continue to pray for this family.  Pray for Ana, as she is adapting to living with her father for the first time in her life.  From my understanding, it does not seem that Ana has a strong relationship with her father, however, he is demonstrating clearly that he wants very much to take responsibility of Ana and care for her. This is a good sign.

Also pray for Ana's grandmother, Ana's older sisters, uncle and aunt.  There seems to be much anger and frustration in this family because of this whole situation.  Pray that the family can work through their problems in a healthy way and encounter Jesus.

Also pray for Joyce and Cida, missionaries from the Lighthouse, who are working with this family.  They need much grace and wisdom to speak truth and to teach this family about who God is and how He calls us to live in love towards one another.

*Ana is a fictious name given to protect the child.

May the Force be With You

For a few weeks now, Drew ( a volunteer from the USA), Isaac (a missionary here at the Lighthouse) Josiah and Gideon (the sons of missionaries) have been filming a short-cut movie inspired by the classic Star Wars!  Here are a few photos of their filming and "advertising" of the film.

Missing Girl

This week a girl went missing here in the slum where we live.  We just found on Thursday afternoon and this situation has been weighing heavy on my heart since then.  I want to share a bit about this so that you can join us in prayer for this precious girl who is missing.  Let's call her Ana...
Some History
Ana is about 8 years old and is a beautiful girl.  Ana's mother died suddenly last year, leaving Ana to live with her grandmother, who is not mentally capable of caring for Ana.

Ana's father is alive, and since the death of Ana's mother he wanted very much to recieve Ana into his home and to care for her. He offered to take Ana, but Ana's grandmother refused him, even though she herself does not have the mental, physical, or financial means to properly care for Ana.  The grandmother seems to have much bitterness and anger towards Ana's father, for reasons we are not sure of.

A few weeks ago, Joyce (a missionary who works here at the Lighthouse - who works directly with this family), became aware that Ana was not attending school on regular basis.  Ana's grandmother was having difficulty getting Ana up and to school each day.  Overall, Joyce felt it was time to report this family, this overall situation,  to the child protection board here in Belo Horizonte.  Ana desperately needed some help.  Her grandmother was not providing it, so it was time that some authority step in and get Ana the help she needed.

Last Sunday...
Last Sunday, Ana's grandmother gave Ana away to some strangers to care for her.  She even gave Ana's official documents away with her. The grandmother is not mentally all together there and does not have much information about the people she gave Ana to. We are not sure what exactly happened, because the grandmother is also difficult to understand and seems confused most of the time.

No one has seen Ana since last Sunday, so she has been gone now for 1 week.  Now Ana's grandmother realizes what a mistake she made and is very much afraid of what may happen to her as well.  When Joyce became aware of this situation she immediately reported it (on Thursday afternoon) and now the Child Protection Board is at work to find Ana.

Pray for Ana
Please pray for Ana's protection and that she will be found soon.  Honestly, there is no telling what could be happening to Ana at the moment.  It is very likely she could even be sold into child prostituion. Let's pray and hope for the best - that Ana will be rescued and found, safe and sound. There is power in prayer and in proclaiming the Word of God.  Please interceed and spend time in prayer for this situation and for Ana's precious life.

I hope to update our blog with good news soon concerning all this, but until then let's keeping praying...

My First Day of School

Today was my first day as a student in the Foundations of Community Development (FCD) School here at our YWAM base in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.  I have to say the reality that I am actually doing this course is finally setting in.
Today I met together with the other students for the introduction class to the school. There is a total of 9 women doing this course! Go girls! We are also from a variety of nations - the USA, New Zealand, Ireland, Holland, Switzerland, Brazil, and Venezuela.
Today we were given more specific details about the classes, books we must read, movies we must watch, and written assignments we must complete.  I still feel a bit nervous about the course load, and I hope I can manage my time well, considering I am a mommy too... I know the Lord's grace is sufficient and He will help me...

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven... (Eccl. 3:1)
I am extremely happy to be in a new and different season. I think the Lord knew that I needed something like this at this moment, as I have felt a bit discouraged lately.  I feel this is a moment that He wants me just to take a step back from everything and remember WHY He has called me to missions.
I am excited to be challenged in my thinking -as I learn new things.
I am also excited to be inspired to dream about how I can be the answer to big needs in the world.
I am praying God will use this time in the FCD School to speak new things to me about His heart and His purposes for my life as a mother, wife and missionary.
Needless to say, I am excited that this new season has begun!
