This past Sunday I had the honor of sharing at a church about my experience in missions. Usually Felipe is the one that is invited to preach or share about our work in missions, but this time I was the one invited. I instantly knew God wanted me to take on the challenge, even though I am not a big fan of speaking in front of large groups.
|We forgot our camera, but a friend captured this shot for me!|
God has a funny way of always calling me out of my comfort zone. I know it's good for me, but it does not always FEEL good! It's down right scary to leave my "comfort zone", my little safe place where there is no fear or risk. However, in the discomfort of facing my fears and in the risk taking to step out,
I know I grow...
Through venturing out of my comfort zone I come to know God in deeper and more intimate ways and I grow in my complete and utter dependency on Him.
As I was praying and preparing my message for the service, God spoke to me through the following line of a Casting Crowns song called The Voice of Truth,
"To step out of my comfort zone,
into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is...
and He's holding out His hand."
I think this is such a sweet and true representation of what happens when we step out in obedience and faith and do what God is calling us to do. As we step out of our comfort zone,we are stepping into a realm where we don't know exactly what is going to happen, but JESUS is there and that is all that matters.
This is such reassurance!
Jesus is in the realm of the unknown and He is holding out His hand. How I need His hand!
This line refers to the story in Matthew 14 where Jesus and Peter walk on the water together. This story in itself is such an encouragement to us. As we step out in obedience and even struggle in our obedience, Jesus is right there to hold our hands and walk together with us as we do the impossible.
I just wanted to share these refelctions today on our blog and offer this encouragement:If God is calling you to step out of YOUR comfort zone,
be assured that He will be right there with you.
As you step out you will grow and come to know Him in more wonderful and intimate ways. It's scary - YES! But remember this...God is with you, and He is holding out His hand. Grab it and hold on to Him with all that you are!
To end, enjoy this song that ministered to my heart this week!
